Edition 002 is growing into The Magnetic Instrument: an expansive archive and interactive jukebox that begins with a mixtape, then follows what happens to those songs when other people record, remix or perform them. This Notion page is the simpler, mobile-friendly backup and alternative way to experience Edition 002. The thirteen-song Side A and the expanding Side B version families are here to listen to and explore now; the wider Side C constellation is being developed separately for the full work. Fall arrives in small sounds: the crisp crunch of leaves underfoot, the last of summer slipping away. Music changes with the season, too. A familiar song finds another voice; a different version opens a memory. These thirteen songs weren't gathered at random. Their order grew out of listening, research, and the connections I found between them. Side A is the mixtape, meant to be heard in that order. Side B takes each song into three branches: remixes and edits, alternate performances, and covers. Side C follows the connections farther outward, into other songs, artists, and shared histories. Together, they form a listening pyramid: PLAY / FLIP / GRAVITY.
DEDICATION · LOST IN AUTUMN
This mixtape is dedicated to the people I've lost. Every autumn, the sound of leaves underfoot and summer coming to an end brings back the songs I wish I could still share with them. I wonder where the music has gone since we last listened together, and what it has become in other people's hands and voices.
